FILM STATEMENT:
The short film Dracovid is both homage to and parody of the Dracula horror genre, on the occasion of the centenary of F.W. Murnau’s “Nosferatu” (1922).
The story is freely reimagined and set in more recent days, just before the start of a global pandemic. Dracovid plays around the hypothetic genesis of the Sars-Cov-2 disease.By turning the origin of the virus from the bat into a vampire figure, the film aims to exorcize the allure of malignity that has fallen over the Chinese city of Wuhan. The virus as such lies within the framework and packaging of the film: every aspect of the content and distribution is shapeless, non-definitive, open to piracy and appropriation. Multiple versions of the music score and posters are created, as if the film had been spread around the world and reworked by casual amateurs, then put back into circulation
with minor, unpredictable mutations.
